Commentary of Reunions Past
Oct. 10 thru Oct. 12
There were about 70 shipmates at the reunion in Philly. The next reunion will be in New London, CN in 2010.
VAM Maggipinto has been appointed Becuna "Historian" replacing Dick Gudis.
Gil Miller via Nick Salaki, sent me 30 pictures from the 2008 reunion and I have posted them for all to see. Now I need someone to add a few captions and info. SEE Pictures
USSVI Convention 2007
I received some some pictures from the cruise and recognized a few Becuna crew and posted them for all to dream about. I have been to Alaska by RV and it was my favorite travel experience in the USA. The note with the pictures explained that the cruise was also enjoyed by all. The cruise ship (Oosterdam) went through a lot of extra effort for the USSVI. Setting the maneuvering watch, diving alarms and tours through the engineering spaces to mention a few.
It wasn't as big as previous reunions but the camaraderie was still there. Another success however I was hoping for a better turnout. There was two skippers there, LCDR Bob Anderson & LCDR Bob Flood.
I got there to late to enjoy the setup for the Hospitality Room. Saturday shipmates broke up into small groups and visited the local attractions which included the Nautilus Museum and the Casinos. The main event, the banquet, had excellent food and plenty to go around. I counted about fifty people there but when I get the official count it will be posted. There was a nice cake decorated with the Becuna patch.
Lou Capone won the drawing for a free room. There was also a 50/50 drawing where half the proceeds go to the Becuna in Philly. The winner will be posted if I get the name.
New pictures from the SubVets / Becuna reunion in Kansas City, Missouri and Glacier Nat Park, Montana have been posted on the Reunion page. Kansas City & Glacier Park Mini Reunion Pic's
New London, CN
The 2002 reunion was a great success. Thanks to our shipmates who contributed there time and expertise.
The official attendance was 97 people. I counted the pic's in the 2000 reunion cruise book and there were 99 pic's.
A special thanks to Dick Gudis for the great job organizing the sub-base tour, the night at the museum and almost a color guard.
Mike Pelhemus helped out a lot with the sales of Becuna items and instrumental in finding the "Ship's Bell" and getting it to Philly at his expense.
Subbase gave us a great tour. Had security SNAFU been avoided we could have avoided the veal meal offered at the mess hall.
The Mayor of Groton, CN awarded the Becuna certificates for outstanding service that will be given to the Becuna Museum at Philly. See Pic's
Oct. 14 thru Oct. 17
There were about 55 shipmates and guests at the reunion in Groton. The next reunion is up for grabs. Most likely in Philly, or possibly in some city in Florida. There were some new faces and a few regulars that couldn't make it. Captain Flood recently married and didn't make it but Captain Anderson and Carol was there and had a great time. The sub school tour was better than the last one and included the delicious lunch at the mess hall - that we missed at the last tour. The banquet had good food and there was plenty to go around, some even had seconds. Loretta Beech won the 50/50 , however she gave it back to the Becuna Fund. Kark Snyder won the free hotel room. I took over 50 pic's and most of them are posted in the Reunion section. The web site has outgrown the old server so I subscribed to "GoDaddy". The site size went from 10Mb+ to 150Mb.
